Institute leadership continues to communicate important information for cadets, their families, faculty & staff, and the VMI community at large:
- VMI Board Appoints 16th Superintendent: In a vote Aug. 15, the VMI Board of Visitors appointed Lt. Gen. David Furness ’87 (USMC, retired) to the role of 16th superintendent of the Institute. A full news release and statement from BOV president Col. (Ret.) Jamie Inman ’86 are available.
- Open House Registration: VMI Open Houses are the best way for high school juniors and seniors to see and experience first-hand what it's like being a cadet at the Institute. - VMI Bookstore: The bookstore, now managed by Barnes & Noble, has shifted from summer hours to standard hours, and is open Mon.-Fri. 8-4, and Saturday 10-3. Families and fans are also encouraged to shop the online store located at . Be sure to check out the newest .
- Game Day Parking Updates: The Institute has posted new information regarding parking rules and regulations for game day on post. Visitors are encouraged to review these updates before the Keydets kick off the season at home Sept. 6 against the Ferrum College Panthers. To buy your tickets, visit today!

New year, new look.
The VMI Athletics Department unveiled a new visual identity for the VMI Keydets community earlier this month, with the rollout of an official VMI logo featuring "Moe" the Kangaroo, an official "Keydets" wordmark and an exclusive font. To accomplish this venture, VMI Athletics partnered with Old Hat Creative along with cadets, alumni, coaches and staff.
The primary Moe mascot logo features from academic stars to the arches seen across post.

VMI Invites Community to Discuss Economic & Community Development
С槼ºÖ±²¥ Institute’s Civil Discourse Initiative and its local college partners invite the greater Lexington, Buena Vista, and Rockbridge County community to participate in a facilitated conversation on economic and community development Sept. 9 at 6:30 p.m. in VMI’s Marshall Hall.
VMI Community Theatre to Hold Auditions
The VMI Community Theatre will hold auditions for its fall show, “Dirk Gently’s Holistic Detective Agency,” Monday, Sept. 8; Tuesday, Sept. 9; Wednesday, Sept. 10; and Thursday, Sept. 11 at 7:45 p.m. in Gillis Theater.
Former Presidential Candidate to Speak at VMI Convocation
Carly Fiorina, businesswoman and politician, will address the Corps of Cadets and faculty at the academic convocation at С槼ºÖ±²¥ Institute on Wednesday, Sept. 3, at 10:30 a.m. in Cameron Hall on Main Street. The event is free and open to the public.
VMI Welcomes New Class of Rats: Matriculants Embrace Hardships Over Comfort
Matriculation Day was held Saturday, Aug. 16, beginning the Rat Line for the new academic year. Even the weather—which had been unpredictable throughout the week—predictably offered a humid day of oppressive temperatures. This year marks the 186th year of the Institute.
